Tasmanian Bushland Garden - 27 Aug 2025

The group travelled to the Tasmanian Bushland Garden just off the Tasman Highway before Buckland for a short walk. It was surprising to find that approximately half of our group of 22 knew about the garden but had not visited it before.

The volunteers for the Garden have established a beautiful spot to spend a quiet few hours in a garden where a large percentage of the plants have identifying tags that allows you identify all the different varieties.

There are also a number of sculptures to enjoy while undertaking the circuit of the property.

From the comments by the group after having lunch at the well maintained facilities we will be having  visits there i the future to enjoy the walk and the garden itself.

Black Snake Lane - Granton - 26 Aug 2025

Today's walk is behind Granton .

The weather forecast is for possible showers in the early afternoon so it is a little cloudy as we set off up the hill.

Just adjacent to where we parked the car on Granton Heights Road this echidna seems more interested in getting into an ants nest than worrying about mere humans observing him.

Our first view across the Derwent.

The climb begins.

There is one that appear to be out of practice possibly because he has been bike riding an E-bike in the Nederlands.

The Derwent's new Bridgewater Bridge from above.

Looking back towards Mount Direction.

Still climbing.

Mount Dromedary about which everyone comments "we must climb that one day!" when we can find some easy access.

On top of the cairn for a photo.

Finishing morning tea.

A couple of the group members are into "stone stacking".

Looking back towards Glenorchy and the city centre.

This eucalypt was just alongside the cairn.

Heading down the other side of the hill.

The wattles are about all that is in flower at the moment.

This area is criss-crossed with old tracks.

Then we hit the creek at the bottom of the valley and head up it.

To the cave.

It is quite large and appears to be being used as a toilet stop for Tassie Devils with a large number of scats.

The rocks are still covered in green since our visit in 2015. I don' think a decision was made if it was algae or lichen.

Along with one of the cave's walls.

The more adventurous climbed on top of the cave.

Heading back down the creek.

A fern glade to the side of the creek.

Checking the old car wrecks.

Climbing out of the creek back to the start.

Nearly back to the cars.

We had 9 walkers who covered 5.6kms and climbed and descended 400 metres,

Thanks to Chris and Mendelt for their photo contributions.
