Snug River / Peggy's Beach - 24 October 2023

Chris is leading today's walk around the Snug region on what promises to be a glorious day with a forecast maximum of 23C which is warm for this time of year.

Accordingly 5 people wore shorts which provided the usual display of white legs and knobbly knees.

We set off and follow the Esplanade until we reach Snug Beach.

Down onto the beach

And over the bridge at the mouth of Snug River

Passing by the Electrona Transend Sub Station which supplies electricity to the Huon

As we reach the bike track which runs along the Channel Highway we pass this Taswater Water Sample Test Point

Near Peggys Beach someone says the magic words ... Morning Tea

Across the bay at the Margate Marina is an old wooden navy minesweeper at what looks to be its final resting place

After lunch we make our way back to Peggys Beach along a track which is overgrown in places

Boys will be boys

Wayne and Lyn having a break and Steve admiring the ladder to nowhere

Not sure what this is but it appears to be some sort of pollution

We leave the beach and head back towards the highway

As Halloween is only a week away decorations were out in force

We cross the channel Highway and follow the track beside Snug River towards our lunch spot.

Friendly native!

Marilyn doing some weeding

Sergeant Major Trevitt has the troops marching in almost perfect order

Minor obstacle .. if Bob was here he would have steeplechased over it

It's time for lunch by the river.  On previous trips we have eaten at this spot but have approached from the other side of the river .. also there has never been this much water running

This section of the walk presented quite a selection of fungi

After lunch we climb away from the river until we reach the Snug Tiers Road which we follow back towards Snug

Noticed this set of coloured pencils while walking on the road

A bit further along was this unusual mail box

Crossing back over the Channel Highway

We find this useful picnic table at the mouth of the Snug River

Leaving the beach for the last 300m back to the cars

All good walks finish with a relaxing cuppa

David provided the entertainment while fixing the blind !!!

Today 17 walkers covered 12.3kms of pleasant walking around the Snug area.
