Single Hill 2015

Today we were walking on and around Single Hill near Roches Beach and Bob was our leader.

It may interest you to know Bob ran the Cadbury Half Marathon on Sunday and won his class. He also was faster than many younger people.

Back to our walk. The day was overcast, but good temperature for walking. The route took in several of the horse trails that cover this area, and it certainly is horse country.

Bob took us over a number of fences and through one gate before we walked around the side of Single Hill before climbing to the top. The views were superb.

Walking down the other side gave us views of Roches Beach, before we took to an old road that led us back to the gate and some of our walkers who decided to wait there for us.

Back to the cars via a seemingly complicated route that had us walking in the opposite direction.

A good walk in which we entertained a number of horses, dogs and alpacas.

Gathering for the start.

This will give you a rough idea of the trails, but there are more that join on.

Horse country
You wouldn't think a small, low bar would cause so much trouble. Just have a look at the next few photos!

Carol makes it look easy.

I think line dancing is probably out.

Lena shows the superiority of her gender, while the boys struggle.

They finally cracked it!
View north

Tracks are mainly wide, as you can see.

Lots of these pretty flowers and very healthy looking plants, which means they're probably an introduced weed.

Wood Ducks lounging by a dam.

It wasn't all easy walking. Here we do a bit of scrub bashing.

It's just a little bit dry.

Just a discussion before crossing another fence...

...and stopping for Morning Tea.

That's the view in front of us.

After Morning Tea we crossed some more fences (in very bad repair) before walking across a very brown paddock towards Single Hill.

Looking down at a couple of Mcmansions in the area.

Now we're walking around the side of Single Hill.

Climbing up with Bob offering encouragement.
While climbing up, I noticed that while most of us did a zig zag, Gordon was off by himself climbing straight up!

Looking down at 7 Mile Beach.

We met another group of walkers coming down from the top.

Walking down the other side of the hill gives a view of Roches Beach.

The top of Single Hill contains a phone tower and a navigation light and little else of interest except the view.

Swinging around on an old road to catch up with the others.

After catching up with the others, we returned along our original approach route until we reached the road, crossing to pick up another track.

We found a comfortable place for lunch.
After lunch Bob took us on a ramble on which we met some of the interesting locals.

They weren't impressed when we didn't give them any food.

Who is that masked horse? Actually, it's a fly mask and I've never seen one before.

Walking away from the cars, with lots of mumbling in the background!
We did make it safely back to the car park. We had 16 walkers and covered 11.1km in 3:49 hours.
