Alum Cliffs Kingston 2017

Today we're supposed to be walking to Macgregor Peak just past Murdunna. You may notice with a quick look that we're not. We were hoping for better weather for that walk than we had on our first trip there, but today is NOT that day!

Instead, we decided to do a local walk from Kingston Beach along the Alum Cliffs to Taroona High School and wing it from there.

We parked at the end of the beach near the surf club and set off.

Looking towards Murdunna. What weather?
We travel the usual track and stop at what used to be the end to have Morning Tea at the sheltered table.

It's not getting better
Just before we arrive at the table for tea, we pass a large group of happy, friendly and slightly puffing teenagers heading for Kingston. We're not sure what school they were from, but did find a coaster bus at the end of the track in Taroona. So maybe not Taroona High.

Morning Tea
Leaving here, we soon come to the descent and climb leading to the Shot Tower. Here it began raining again and we had to suit up before continuing.

I'll give a link at the end for a previous blog where I give more details about the Shot Tower and other features we pass today.

Heading down

You have to go down before you can go up

It's official. Orchids out. Fungi in

The rain brings out the colours on the trunks of the gums

Heading down. They appear to be demonstrating different arm positions you can use while walking

We come to the end of the track, taking a short ramble through the streets until we pick up the start of the track to the beach.

We make our way along the track to Taroona High School. Here we dive inland on to the streets heading for a lunch spot at the skateboard park in Taroona Park. On arrival we have the entire place to ourselves. Plenty of sheltered seating as we have lunch and try to decipher all the graffiti.

Lunch finished, we take off again. Shortly however, Peter offers to take over guiding us as he lives in the area and is aware of all the shortcuts and back streets. One of Peter's goals is to include as many circles as he can. Off we go and immediately Peter channels Bob by turning away from our destination and heading up hill!

He does lead us around in areas we haven't walked before while pointing out the homes of all the media and political celebrities that live here.

Finally we make our way back to the track heading up to the Shot Tower.

Peter leading us in pastures new. Well, the Taroona Dog Park

Leaving the Shot Tower and looking forward to Kingston. The weather's still holding up and the track still goes down and up

We make our way back to Kingston Beach, but Peter manages to include another loop just before we finish.

Loop One at the Northern end of the walk

Loop Two around the Scout Shed at Kingston Beach
We had 6 walkers and covered 14.49km in 4:52hrs.
