Today was a walk to Gunners Quoin on the eastern shore of the River Derwent.
Unfortunately at the last moment I dropped out and trusted the group to take care of themselves. Bob was leading so I wasn't worried. Honest!
I entrusted my camera and GPS tracker to Ron and he did a great job of documenting the walk. His photos are below.
The walk starts at the Risdon Brook Reservoir. Here they are, heading for the dam.
Bob looks a little confused, but I think he'll manage without me.

This looks like Morning Tea |

How come no one laughs when I take photos? |
I just realized Ron is in the photo so Bob is behind the camera! That's a first.
|
Ron even included the photographer's shadow as I do |

Serious discussion |

The expression you have when you stop for a breather and realize a camera is pointed at you! |

Is Bob phoning Uber? |
Evidently Uber isn't keen on sending a driver to this location. They did once before and the result is below.
Actually, I think this is when Bob phoned me.
|
They've reached the top of Gunners Quoin and it's a good day for a view |
|
I don't know how Ron got this shot, but I'm glad he did |

Heading back |
The above two photos are fine examples of Xanthorrhoea australis. But you knew that didn't you? Otherwise commonly known as the Blackboy or Grass Tree. The top one is the larger of the two types in Tassie. The trunk is usually black from bushfires. The smaller has no trunk.
|
Not many people know Bob has a holiday shack up here |
|
Another feather photo |
I've not looked into which bird this is from, but its feathers aren't firmly attached as I have several photos over the years of this exact same type of feather.

Distant view of Gunners Quoin |
|
Round stone cannonball? |
|
I think they're very near the reservoir now |
|
I bet Ron didn't get a hand down |
|
My view. I can see Ron has assumed the correct position of a photographer, i.e. at the rear |
|
Bob in front as usual |

Cars ahead... |
|
...and I'm ready for them |
Bob did a great job taking the group of eight to Gunners Quoin. They covered 14.82km in 5:26hrs.

You're not finished yet, I completed the walk around the dam, and had a look up into the nearby hills. My walk was about 8km.

Only locals I saw, although there were plenty signs of wombat |

Levels are down as they are doing maintenance work around the edges of the reservoir.
I covered about 8km.
A bit of a coincidence, we went to Gunners Quoin the same day. Whilst having morning tea on top of a hill we could hear voices below and the time on your GPX file matches with that.
ReplyDeleteOur route was different but our way in was similar to way of your last hills on your return.
