Mt. Nelson-Olinda Grove 2021

Well, I had completed this blog and posted it, however I received another photo I wanted to include so I reverted to draft and added it. However in trying to position it on the page the entire blog disappeared bar the title. I'm not going to type all that again, but at least I do have the original photos and will post them below. I'll probably add comment later.

So, here we go.

Today, Bob is leading us on a walk taking in Mt. Nelson and Olinda Grove on many tracks. There are so many loops that I have included an animated track at the end.

Parking near the Olinda Grove Sports Field

Easy walking, lovely graveled track

But not for long

We come to a spot overlooking Hobart

Too bad it's not a clear day

Enough of this easy track

Let's go bush...

...and meet some locals

Can you spot its friend?

Bob stopped us at the bottom of this steep hill to offer anyone who wanted the chance to wait here as he would be doing a loop up the hill and around. No one did.

Up the hill and behind houses on Mt. Nelson

Heading back down

Morning Tea

This selfie is available in a larger size for a modest fee if you want to frighten your grandchildren into submission.

Due to past woodcutting most of the larger trees are gone. Peter shows us one of the few fairly big gum trees on the walk

Look carefully and you can see Bob at the top making sure I don't take this shortcut

He appears not to be looking, but I think he's watching out of the corner of his eye

We've seen this structure in the past and it's in worse shape now

Some unkind people link it to Engineering Students from the University just down the hill

This poor tree is well and truly knotted

Off the main track and heading  back to the cars

Development at top of Tolmans Hill. Still building and just waiting for a bushfire.

We've passed the cars, crossed Olinda Grove Rd. and are passing the Fire Station

Looking for a lunch spot

Lunch

kunanyi/Mt. Wellington

Having lunch and lining up the perfect photo of kunanyi/Mt. Wellington

The photo above by Chris is the one that caused all the trouble with the blog disappearing. I don't blame you Chris. Really!

Moving on after lunch

This spider was spotted by someone with sharp eyes. It was actually smaller then it appears.

A larger view

Bob leads us on various tracks, getting us thoroughly confused

Now we've reached civilization, a playing field belonging to nearby Hobart College

We make our way back to the cars from here. A good walk and it's amazing how many tracks and trails Bob can find up here.

We had 16 walkers and covered 10.32km in 4:17hrs. Because of all the loops Bob included, you can click on the animated track  below and see how many we did.
