Mount Misery 5 Apr 2022

Today's walk is to Mount Misery which rises behind Lucaston and is accessed through the Huon Bush Retreats property.

The weather was forecast for overcast with minimal rain and quite cool.

After parking we followed the Tall Trees Track to where it joins the Mount Misery track.

Along the this track were some very large trees.

Also across the track.

The rainforest in this area is quite exceptional with shorter walks than the one we were following.

And very well constructed.

There were a large variety of fungi throughout the walk.

After a climb we exited the rainforest and arrived at a cliff face just below the plateau where we had morning tea. There is numerous signage along the walk that interprets the indigenous occupation of the area.

Unfortunately when we reached the plateau the cloud was quite low with no views into the South West.

Some of the banksia were coming into bloom.

The track across the plateau enters a forested area until you arrive at the lookout.

Lunch on the rocks with minimum views because of the cloud cover.

Everyone lined up along the length of a very long fallen tree in the rainforest.

Walking past the remains of an old tree that was logged some time ago gives a vivid picture of the size of trees taken from this forest in years gone by.

The Lightning Tree that was partially destroyed in 2006 by a lightning strike.

Looking across the valley with Huonville in the distant haze.

A closeup of the waterfall which according to the sign dried up in about 2006 and has rarely flowed like its old self (next photo) since.

Emerging from the Lightning Tree on the way to the cars.

There were 15 walkers who covered about 9kms over 4hours.
