Today we are walking from Neika to Wellington Falls and return via the Pipeline Track. We did have another walk planned but decided that as a result of the heavy rain last week it was likely that there would have been difficulty crossing a couple of creeks so we headed to the mountain instead.
The day was to be sunny and dry as we headed off.
The remnants of the heavy rainfall was very apparent along the track with a number of creeks flowing quite well.
Some sunshine provided a good omen for the day's walk.
Another great day for a photo of Cathedral Rock which is becoming a bit of a feature in our walks.
Our first of a number of minor creek crossings.
We have now left the Pipeline Track and commenced the climb to Wellington Falls on a very well made track.
On turning the third corner of the track there was a Lyre Bird standing there. Not the best photo but proof at least.
Enjoying the walk.
One of some of the seats constructed along the way.
Looking out across North West Bay to Bruny Island.
Our arrival at the turnoff and short descent to the Wellington Falls Lookout which provided an enjoyable lunch spot.
Obviously the cairn builders on the track were masters in their trade.
Wellington Falls from the Lookout.
And with another walking group at the head of the Falls.
Looking back towards the lookout from the top of the Falls.
Upstream from the Falls.
Heading back down the track through quite a large Pandani forest.
Another well constructed cairn.
As well as one of a number of rock retaining walls.
Maybe we should have described this walk as "A Fungi Viewing Walk" as the number and variety of fungi along the side of the track was quite extraordinary as can been seen from the following photos.
I will leave the identifying of thesesfungi to the experts.
There were 15 walkers today and we covered 18kms in 5 hrs 30 mins and climbed a total of 328 meters
on a very pleasant days walks.
