Once again the weather gods are against us and we have moved our planned Hartz Peak walk until closer to summer.
The weather forecast was for snow and rain so the mountains were replaced with the lower hills of Mt Nelson.
The first part of the walk is up the Truganini Walking track.
As a result of the recent rains the creek flow is up more than normal.
Just after leaving the Truganini Track I spotted this and a couple of other recent barefoot prints. Maybe it was Yowie but imagine walking up the muddy track with the mud oozing between your toes.
The further we climbed the warmer it got and some had to shed their outer layers.
First views of the River Derwent.
Panorama shot of a very calm River Derwent from our morning tea stop on Porters Hill.
Where we explored the old military facilities.
A happy group enjoying the sunshine from one of the old gun batteries. At this point there were a few comments about maybe the weather was OK to have walked to the Hartz.
Wandering through the many tracks on Mt Nelson which now include a number of dual walking an mountain bike tracks.
The used casing of a cicada on the forest floor.
Part of the Bi-Centennial Track.
Lunch on the lawns adjacent to the Signal Station.
The view from the lunch spot.
Commencing the descent down the Truganini Track.
White Flag Iris.
Descending from open forest into the rainforest creek .
Bracket Fungi.
Shortly after this shot was taken to heavens opened with hail and rain, the forecast cold front had arrived.
It was a good relatively short walk.
There were 13 walkers who covered approx 9.5kms on 3.5 hrs.
