Our walk today is a completely new one for the group up Mount Hobbs and some local exploration of the area.
Our leader Sally is briefing the group on the walk prior to leaving the cars.
The walk commences with a climb along the roadway to the top of Mount Hobbs
While the forest adjacent to the road has been previously logged the regrowth shows how well nature does it's job.
The ferns alongside the road spread far into the adjoining forest.
The climb did not seem to deter the walkers from their normal conversations even if a couple of us had to have breather stops.
Sunlight through the eucalypt leaves.
Getting comfortable on the top of Mount Hobbs.
View to the north towards possibly Murphy's and Big Lagoon.
Some were happy looking at the view while others were trying to find out all the point of interest.
Maria Island and The Thumbs in the distance.
Guitar Plant (Lomatia Tinctoria)
Departing from the peak to explore the local bush.
Mountain Pepper ( Tasmannia Lanceloata).
Nearly all the understorey within this part of the forest is Mountain Pepper. Most of the group commented that it was one of the largest number of the plants they had seen in one area.
Pink Mountain Berry.
The group appears to have disappeared over the edge.
Well this was a surprise for the group.
The more adventurous of the group continued with their exploration wile the rest relaxed with the views.
This is some of the cliffs and small gorges around the area which beg for further investigation.
This cairn is close to the entrance.
There were 15 walkers who covered nearly 6 kms and climbed 250m in just under 3 hours.
A very different walk which everyone enjoyed.
