Platform Peak 22 Aug 2023

The group has done today's walk a number of times.

The forecast for today is cold windy with some showers.

The first view is across the paddocks near the car park and for the first time we notice two small crosses in the foreground and wonder what they represent.

The group making steady progress up the trail.

Until we saw this sign on the side of the track. Very thoughtful but not required by the group.

A couple of the group checking out the technicalities of the locals water system.

A new sign for the bypass track.

A bit of a scramble and I guess those on the road are discussing my style.

The forest through the bypass is quite varied.

With enough room for morning tea.

Including a tree trunk chair.

Meanwhile one of the group  disappeared into the forest seeking better seating.

Back on the main track after the bypass.

We think this was the latest in cairns directing the way back to the cars.

And the clouds starting descending into the forest and the rain came.

Some discussion on the direction of the track.

 Another minor obstacle.

Emerging from the forest onto Platform Peak.

There is the cairn on the top of Platform Peak in the distance.

Lunch time on Platform Peak and the cloud has lifted and rain gone.

Chris dishing out his famous smoked trout pate to the group. (He catches the trout, smokes it and makes the pate).

Enjoying the view even if the wind was a bit cold.

Some of the group taking in the view.

Another of the various styles of cairns.

Highlighting the way back to the car park.

The happy group getting close to the cars.

We had 9 walkers who completed 12.3km in 4.5 hours and climbed 440 meters.

Thanks to Chris and Ingrid for some of the photos.
