Macgregor Peak - 8 Aug 2023

Our walk is through a variety of East Coast country from logging coupes to the rainforest peak of Macgregor Peak.

After having a reasonably easy drive through the city of Hobart to the the eastern shore it takes about an hour to reach the turnoff to the parking spot.

However after a delay on arrival where some of the cars went to one access road and the remainder to another it was all satisfactorily resolved  and along the way we met up with another of our group who had arrived independently.

There were comments made that it was fortunate that we did ending going to both places otherwise we may not have known that Ingrid was where she was waiting for us.

Any way it all ended well and the walk commenced as planned although a little late.

Some of the group deciding about whether this was the right starting point or not.

Finally heading up the hill after parking the cars.

Following the  road up the hill.

The first of many fallen trees to be climbed over for day.

Sunlight beaming down the hill towards us.

Mount Wellington in the distance.

Still climbing up the road.

At last we arrive at the Fire Tower for a late morning tea.

And the view looking straight down.

The track continues through  an area of open bushland.

Including numerous obstacles.

And some very large trees.

More cutting grass.

Finally we enter the rainforest.

With rainforest flora although like the rest of the State it seemd very dry for this time of year.

Trees established over large rocks with their roots surrounding the rock.

A small view of Pirates Bay Beach.

The Survey Marker on Macgregor Peak.

Heading further along the ridge.

The view down on Pirates Bay and on to Cape Huay.

Climbing down the ridge to Schofields Road.

Some of the fallen trees on Schofields Road.

Avoiding one puddle of a number on the way back to the cars.

9 walkers enjoyed this 9.5km walk climbing just over 400metres and taking 5 hours due primarily to the fallen timbers across the track.
