Waterfall Bay - 10th October 2023

Although we set off on today's walk (Tasman Blow Hole to Waterfall Bay) in bright sunlight there were ominous dark clouds hanging around the hills ahead of us.

The first part of the walk is through bush along a fire trail heading towards Tasmans Arch.

Whose home is this?

We soon reached our first feature of the day - Tasmans Arch

In the scrub between the Arch and Devils Kitchen we spot this bird box

From here on until we reach the Waterfall Bay car park the track is well formed and hugs the rugged coastline providing spectacular views from the many small lookouts.

Devils Kitchen

By the time we stop for morning tea the drizzle has started and it's time to put on rain wear. For the next couple of hours it alternates between drizzle and rain ensuring that we all get wet.

Continuing after morning tea

The wet conditions are evident in this photo

On the lookout looking south over Waterfall Bay - again the drizzle is quite obvious

After leaving the car park we climb on the final section of the walk as the track becomes much narrower.

Getting closer to Waterfall Bay

We reached the Shower Falls Creek and as there was steady rain it was decided to have a quick lunch and then start our return journey.  We had originally planned to continue to Morleys Lookout and perhaps Waterfall Bluff.

Lunch over we commence our return journey

Looking south from Devils Kitchen - by the time we arrived here the sun was out but you can see that Waterfall Bay is still covered by clouds.

For the last part of today's walk we take the track which follows the coastline.

While looking at the view we observed what we believed to be a pod of seals herding fish towards the shore. We first saw them in a straight line some distance out to sea - as they got close to the cliffs they maintained this formation.  Also the birds were in quite a frenzy.

After finishing it was decided to have a treat by going for coffee at the scenic lookout above the Lufra Hotel.

12 walkers covered 10.3 kms in 4 hours mainly along coastal tracks with numerous lookouts which gave views of the spectacular scenery.  We started in sunshine then had 3 hours of rain/drizzle and finally finished in brilliant sunshine.
