Cascade Gardens - Towards Junction Cabin 1 July 2025

Today is a lovely winters day - currently 2 degrees  with a forecast high of about 5, with no clouds, rain or wind expected.  Again we have perfect walking weather.

We set of from Cascade Gardens on our way towards Junction Cabin (a total climb of 550 metres).

We soon reach the fire trail which overlooks Mcrobies Gully Waste Management Facility (it used to be called Hobart Tip)

This photo clearly shows the frost in the shady parts of the tip area as opposed to the sunny track we are walking on which was quite pleasant

This electronic device (past its use by date) has captured Greg's interest

Decent from the dry area to the gully which is a lot wetter.

The stream provides a nice reflection as the walkers disappear into the distance

We take the route towards the Main Fire Trail

We make use of a bike track to climb out of the gully

A view back towards the gully we were previously walking in - it shows the transition from a wet to a dry landscape

A good spot for morning tea - in the sun

After morning tea we use the Jurassic Shark Track (mountain biking) until we reach the Main Fire Trail.

As it's a bit of a drudge climbing up the track towards Junction Cabin we have a discussion and decide to take the Old Farm Trail back down to the Main Fire Trail

Along the way there is a glimpse of Mt Wellington with it's distinctive tower visible

 Lunch in the sunshine.

Lunch over we take the Cascade Track to make our way back to the brewery, Cascade Gardens and then our cars.

A bit further on we reach the "Leaning Tree"

Almost back

Today 16 walkers enjoyed their walk of  9.5kms in cool but sunny weather.  Since we were last in the area there has been an increase in the number of bike tracks as well as extensions to others.

Thanks to Ingrid and Chris for their photos
