Cascades to Strickland Falls 2019

Today Ron is taking us on a walk last done back in 2015. Cascades to Strickland Falls.

Parking at the car park in front of the silos at the Cascade Brewery, we cross Old Farm Road, starting up the Cascade Walking Track.

The low winter sun makes taking photographs difficult

The track is easy walking over a variety of surfaces, through open bush and ferns.

Over the Guy Fawkes Rivulet

Not much water today

Soon we reach the top of Old Farm Road - yes, we could have driven up, but where's the fun in that - and look for a spot for Morning Tea.

We choose an old favourite spot on the bank at the junction of several tracks.

Morning Tea
The Old Farm cycle track exits the bush behind us. One way and only for cyclists.

The Myrtle Gully Track also ends here, but we when we finish our break, we take the Main Fire Trail, which is to the left in the photo.

Heading down the Main Fire Trail
It's not long before we reach the junction with the Middle Island Fire Trail, and start climbing a nice little hill.

Turn right and up we go

Looking back...

...and to the side

The occasional spring appears from the bush

A well aged sign shows we're on the right track
After walking through a clear area, the track enters a more overgrown section.

It's a bit more grown up since the last time we were here
We continue on for a short distance until we reach an unmarked track that leaves the fire trail and heads down through some nice bush.

This unnamed track exits onto Strickland Avenue, a little distance down from the entry to Strickland Falls. Turning right, we head up.

It's not long before we reach the picnic area on the sharp curve where the road crosses the Hobart Rivulet.

Entering, we head for the falls. It's actually difficult to reach the falls from this side, but we do the best we can.

Crossing the rivulet. If you look carefully just right of middle, that blur is Ron

Strickland Falls are actually fairly small
After a look around, I make my way back to join the others for lunch.

Lunch in comfort
I cross the rivulet to have a look around, everything on both sides of the rivulet goes up!

Vertical stone wall above the Hobart Rivulet
Lunch finished, we head back to Strickland Avenue to continue our way up. But not far.

More bike tracks coming

We walk up a short distance before turning into the Rivulet Track, heading down
This is easy walking with some washed out areas to cope with.

The track varies

Very badly eroded area just off track

End in sight. The Cascade Brewery Silos
We had 14 walkers and covered 8.63km in 2:51hrs moving time. A very pleasant walk on a good day thanks to Ron.
