Herringback 2020

Another one I missed and I thank Ron for the photos and walk information.

Another rotten day in Tasmania, dripping with sunshine. I'll let Ron tell the story below.

"My watch still hasn’t been repaired and so haven’t a gpx track of our walk – however the route was almost the same as last time we went about 5 years ago.

The weather was perfect and it took the 14 walkers about 4 hours to cover the 11 kms.

After an initial uphill section the land levels off and there is a small olive orchard. When we last did this walk the orchard had been let go but now it is quite well maintained.

30 minutes after the start we reach the halfway point to Herringback and have a well earned rest. It takes us just over an hour to climb the 300 metres to the top where we have morning tea with a view.

Angela looks happy – probably because she is now going downhill. Longley is in the background.

We passed a large ants nest – on close inspection you can see lots of them – I wonder who can count the most?

As surprise to those who did this walk for the first time we reach a lake – it is an idyllic spot to have lunch. If you look closely at the house you can see 2 people. Shortly after the picture was taken the man in the white shirt was walking around the deck looking around the lake!!

Leaving the lake everyone was thrilled to have another uphill climb – fortunately it wasn’t as long as this mornings climb"

As Ron said, 14 walkers covered 11km in 4 hours. The map and Google Earth graphics from 2015 are below to give you an idea.
