Our walk today takes into Coningham Nature Recreation Area from Old Station Road. It is a walk we have done a few times before but Bob has advised that there are some variations on previous walks. Its a fine cool day with little if any cloud.
After parking on Old Station Road we get our packs ready to set off.
This is one of many Spanish Heath infestation in the reserve. Spanish Heath was originally imported to Tasmania for use in flower arrangements but escaped and is now a declared weed across the State.
Now strolling along Coningham Beach.
This part of today's walk is renown as a highlight for the views across D'Entrecastreaux Channel and back towards Mount Wellington.
From Coningham Beach we walked on to Legacy Beach where we stopped for morning tea.
Bob has found a seat from which he is able to hold court.
The colors of the recently cut eucalypt stood out against the rest of the trackside bush.
And then "They Found a Cave". For a number of the group this was their first visit to the cave.
Looking through a hole in the roof of the cave which would have made a perfect chimney for a fire below.
The inside color of the sandstone back wall was quite bright.
Someone has obviously been practicing on their hut making skills.
Lunch near the top of the climb.
In the end disappearing into an overgrown but pleasant track through a creek bed and back to the cars.
There were 15 walkers on the day who covered approx 11kms in 4 hours and 20 minutes.
The flat spot on the above elevation map is where we stopped for lunch.
A pleasant walk with little difficulty on a great winters day.
