Platform Peak 28 Sep 2021

Our walk today was scheduled for Mount Dromedary via Magra however after we left the carpark and walked about one km up the track we came upon a private property gate that had not been across the track previously.

Just before the gate there was a sign and newly tape track to Platform Peak. A quick decision was made to walk to Platform Peak instead of Mt Dromedary as we were unsure of how much extra  time would be required for Mt Dromedary.

Getting ready to leave the carpark with the ute driver providing a bit of local advice.

Mt Wellington from just above the care park.

The locals ingenious water supply.

The start of the climb away from the formed road onto the new track.

Morning tea part way through the new track.

Back on the old track.

Now the fun begins as there was quite a lot of water in places.

Some were not that worried about wet feet.

The open forest was good walking and a lot easier than the diversion.

Some people just wander along enjoying the experience.

Even when its gets a bit overgrown at least Chris is still smiling.

At last we are starting the ascent onto Platform Peak.

And yes there was some snow.

That's Mt Dromedary where we were supposed to be going.

Standing rocks on their ends became the distraction of the day.

Panorama across the Derwent Valley with the snow covered South West Mountains in the background.

Platform Peak our objective.

And so it continues.

A bunch of happy walkers.

Panorama looking north and east.

 A completed sculpture park.

Fungi that were noticed on the way back down through the new track.

You can clearly see the first part of the blue track which is the new track going around the private land.

While there was disappointment in not going to Mt Dromedary everybody enjoyed what turned out to be a good long walk.

There were 15 walkers who covered 11.5km over 6.5 hours.
