Our walk today is to a iconic Tasmanian day walk, Hartz Mountain.
The group had programmed the walk previously but due to inclement weather forecasts those walks were cancelled.
Today the weather forecast is for favorable weather although overcast.
Setting of from the reception hut with a spring our steps and prepared for all weathers.
Low cloud covering the peaks.
New growth showing through.
There were cobwebs aplenty beside the track.
Just a little practice rock hopping.
The boardwalk makes for comfortable walking.
The Milligans Leatherwood flowers were amazing in some instances covering large areas.
Bellendena Montana (Mountain Rocket) was also quite prolific beside the track.
Our morning tea stop was at Lake Esperance where there are some seating alongside the lake.
The cloud seems to be getting lower.
Maybe it is lifting at last.
Disappearing into the start of the climb.
Some people never seem to worry about the incline of a climb.
At last it appears that the cloud base has lifted.
Looking back with the track and boardwalk below in the distance.
Mount Picton appears through the cloud.
Looking down on Hartz Lake.
Chris is not on the summit just a small deviation.
Panorama's from the summit.
Settled in for lunch with a view.
Bussy's even hide under rocks on the tops of mountains.
Mt Snowy and tarns.
Descending from the summit with the way home in the distance.
A couple of the group got distracted on the way down.
A view into the South West.
Low cloud making it difficult to see the SW mountains.
Still distracted.
Mountain Rocket.
A small Pandani growing out of the rock face.
A cushion plant attached vertically to the descent.
Close up of Miligan's Leatherwood.
For once the grasshopper just sat there to get his photo taken.
Orites Revolutus (Narrow-leaf orites) seed pods. Endemic to Tasmania.
Looking into a Pandani.
There is someone hiding in in the bush. (Thanks Chris).
Forty years ago on my first walk to Hartz Mountain I took a photo of this dead tree (maybe a King Billy) and it doesn't look any different.
A short stop at Ladies Tarn and after the group left somebody who will remain nameless had a quick invigorating dip.
Looking back to Mt Snowy.
The Mountain Gentian was just emerging.
Thanks to Chris for providing the following photos from different perspective.
There were 15 walkers today who covered the 8kms climbing and descending 370 meters in just under 5 hours with stops.
Thanks to Marilyn for leading /arranging the walk which I believe was enjoyed by all.
