Pilchers Hill - 9 Jul 2024

The walk today  starts just of the East Derwent Highway at Geilston Bay and wanders around the hills behind the suburb.

The weather is overcast with no rain.

The objective today will be to climb Pilchers Hill and return to the cars.

The first obstacle is this fancy swinging walker's gate.

Heading up the track into the low winter sun.

Our first fungi of the day.

More winter sunlight.

A relaxed group walking up the fire trail.

After a bit of a climb we arrive opposite the Flagstaff Quarry where we discuss if this is a suitable morning tea stop.

Agreement reached.

After leaving the quarry are we descend a little way before commencing the climb to Pilchers Hill.

Another fungi.

The climb starts up Pilchers Hill.

This is either a short uphill rest spot or a discussion about whether or not this is the right way.

Walking along the top of Pilchers Hill.

to the water tank on the top.

Some of the group contemplating whether to follow the power lines down and across Flagstaff Gully Road before continuing on to the Meehan Range.

They ending up thinking "maybe another day".

Wandering around Pilchers Hill.

Before we head down the Pilchers Hill Track (a one way up for bikers).

Chris said "this looks like a good way down".

A vibrant green mistletoe growth.

The steepness of the track continues.

At last off the bike track and back on the main walking track.

And back through the gate.

One of a number of wallabies that we saw during the walk.

We had 14 walkers who covered 7kms in 3.5 hours climbing and descending 160 meters.

Thanks to Chris for his photos and slight diversion of the main track.
