Lumeah Avenue - Lenah Valley 9 Aug 2022

The walk today commences and ends at the end of Lumeah Ave, Lenah Valley.

The weather forecast is for a fine sunny day with a cold start.

We leave the cars at the end of Lumeah Ave.

Just inside the reserve boundary we follow a well marked track the descends slowly down the hill to Barossa Creek.

Crossing the Kalang Fire Trail before descending to the creek.

The bush is much denser as it travels along the creek side.

We then enter this large open space which looks like it is a very large marsupial lawn where the local wildlife feed.

It is quite a steep climb with the shaded part being completely covered in early morning frost.

Looking back to where we have just climbed.

And looking forward to the group arriving at the Priest Fire Trail.

Our first view of Mt Wellington summit.

Climbing up the fire trail.

Some time was spent looking at the various fossils in the sandstone that makes up the fire trail.

There was some discussion about how fossil rock come to be half way up the mountain with no agreement being reached.

After morning tea in the sun the group recommenced the climb.

While I enjoyed the view through the trees towards the River Derwent.

After a short walk following Priest Fire Trail we did a bit of off track walking.

Which proved to be opportunistic as we came across these Greenhood Orchids with the group declaring that Spring must becoming as these were the first orchids we have spotted for a while.

Nodding Orchid.

After returning to the fire trail there was a small descent.

And looking back we were able to capture Table Mountain in the distance between Oatlands and Bothwell.

Whenever we go down you can bet that means there is another hill to climb.

Glimpses of the suburbs and river through the trees.

Even though they are going down hill they still look like a happy group.

This very photogenic tree was a great place to sit under while we had our lunch.

As was this one a bit further along the track.

After completing our descents for the day we commenced the climb up an unnamed track to the Lumeah Fire Trail and back to the cars.

There were 12 walkers who covered a bit over 5 kms today in 2.75 hours on a pleasant winters day short walk.
