Coningham - 30 August 2022

Today's weather forecast is consistent with our recent run - showers - UGH!!

Fortunately the scheduled walk is for Coningham and the nature reserve above the beach.  As this is a fairly benign area the 11 hardy walkers decided to continue with this walk despite the constant drizzle. Our intention was to reach Sheppards Hill and depending on the weather at the time make a decision on the route for the remainder of the walk.

Discussion time

At Coningham everyone is ensuring they have their wet weather gear on.

Once sorted, we head off along the beach towards the start of the clifftop track.  It soon became apparent that there were lots of signs along the way.  Due to the constant drizzle lots of the photos have an 'atmospheric' quality to them.

If you look very closely you be able to see a Drooping Sheoak - it is the thin dark green plant next to the tag.

Continuing along the track which consists mainly of sheoaks.

Lots of instructions on this sign!

Not sure what this rock spiral represents

We reach Legacy Beach and have a quick look

 Continuing along

We reach the end of this track and  climb down to the cave where we will have morning tea.

After morning tea we climb until we reach the Sheppards Hill track in the Coningham Nature Recreation Area.

We passed this ants nest - the ants were unusual as they had orange bodies with a black head and tail.

We had intended to have lunch in the vicinity of Sheppards Hill but as the drizzle was quite heavy decided give this a miss and to continue on a more direct route back to Coningham Beach.

There is a very active  mountain bike club operating in the reserve and they have developed 4 trails which we crossed on numerous occasions during our decent.  The following photo shows the 'blue' trail. The next marker can just be seen in the distance.

Jenny (inside the tepee) and Chris the Constructor trying to determine if these structures were suitable to have lunch in.  As there was still heavy drizzle we didn't think the roof was adequate!

The wattles were in flower particularly in the lower parts of the walk.  The following pictures show a collection of these.

Above Coningham Beach almost back to the cars.

Today 11 walkers covered 8kms in 3hrs.
