Conningham - 26th March 2024

Today we will do a loop mainly through the Conningham Recreation Area. 

With a forecast temperature in the low 20's the weather should be ideal for walking.

The start is from the car park at Conningham Beach.

And then along the beach 

Once past the boathouses we leave the beach and continue along the cliff top track

We have 2 photos of the same wallaby from a slightly different angle - in one its camouflage works really well but in the other it is very visible

These signs provide information about the region

Its soon time for morning tea and Legacy Beach is a good place for this

At the far end of the beach we spot someone emerging from the water - is it Neptune (god of the sea) .... no ..  closer inspection shows it's Mendelt

Morning tea over we continue along the cliff top track

Some more signs - this time about the flora and fauna of the region

We reach the aboriginal cave shelter at Snug Point.  Ingrid and Sally can't resist peeping through the hole in the roof

We leave the cave and start the climb to the top of Shepherds Hill (250 metres).  Initially its  along a wide fire trail.

It's time for lunch so we pick a nice sunny spot

Not sure what Ingrid did but she appears to be sitting in the naughty corner

 After completing our visit to the summit (which was less than inspiring) we commence our decent.

Does anyone know what the top symbol on the sign post represents?  I've googled it but was unable to find an answer

We leave Old Station Road and make our way back to the cars using smaller tracks

This particular tree generated some discussion .. not sure why

It turns out that Mendelt knows some people in the area - this photo shows him jumping the fence and going to obtain permission to cross their land.

Permission granted we continue with our walk

All good walks end with a coffee 

Today we covered 9.5kms in 4.25 hours. 

Sally sends a thank you to everyone for the card and kindness they have shown her.  The surgeon is waiting for the swelling to settle and will review her injury in two weeks.
