Today's trip will be from Risdon Brook Dam to Madmans Hill and return a walk which we had done a few times before.
Although the forecast was for a maximum temperature of 26 degrees there was a strong wind about which made the conditions quite chilly.
Rugged up in the carpark ready to go
We head off towards the dam and follow the fire trails
This little fellow is interested in our progress
Time for morning tea - by now with the wind easing and the sun out it was very pleasant
After morning tea we continue along the power lines and commence the climb
Lorna can't resist the view
Our ultimate destination - Madmans Hill right in front of us
A close up
The climb begins in earnest
Those with sharp eyes will be able to get a glimpse of the Tasman Bridge through the trees
As we climb higher the track deteriorates and becomes steeper
We reach the top and decide its time for lunch - what more could you ask for - good company, great views and warm sunshine
Some of the views from the top looking northwards towards Bridgewater - it is possible to see the progress of construction of the new bridge over the Derwent
Mendelt is a bit slow with lunch and is nearly left behind as we start our decent back to the cars
It doesn't take long till it gets steeper
We're almost back to the dam and as the temperature has risen to the mid 20's this shady spot seemed a good place to have a drink stop
We return using the path on the left side of the dam
This big fella wasn't too concerned with our passing by
Today 16 walkers enjoyed a walk of 11.6kms from Risdon Brook dam to Madmans Hill and return.
