Mount Misery - 21 Apr 2026

Our walk today is to Mount Misery at the hills behind Ranelagh.

The forecast is for clear skies with little wind so we should get some good views.

Access is via a track through the Huon Bush Retreats property.

The climb starts straight from the car park.

The track winds past the area of bush set aside for the Bush Retreats.

The first of a number of very large trees still remaining in the forest.

The fancy bit of plumbing is a sight for calculating the height of trees in the forest provided by the Bush Retreat.

A discussion about where the track went when all we should have done was look at the signange and go where indicated(Maybe too many cooks).

The first of a number of fungi noticed through the climb in the rain forest.

Although steep in sections the track is very accessible.

There were times when the sun peaked through the forest to shine on the forest floor.

About here there was heard "are we there yet".

The view from the lookout just below the plateau.

The edge of the plateau is just behind the cliff face.

But morning tea first.

The view across the plateau showing some of the mountains in the distance including  Hartz, Picton and the Arthurs.

Our intrepid leader pointing the mountains out to the group. Hopefully he got them right.

Some of the flora while walking across the plateau.

Settled in for lunch at the large boulder just prior to the top.

A small rock pool with a view.

Heading back through the forest to the open Plateau.

and back to the rainforest.

The group lined up for a photo opportunity

against a very large  long fallen tree lying beside the track.

Happy looking faces heading to the cars.

or was it that they noticed the couches on the way in.

A montage of fungi.

We had 17 walkers today on a relatively short walk of 6.5 kms climbing 260 meters over 3.75 hours.

Due to the lack of recent rains we did not visit the waterfall this trip.

Thanks to Chris for his photos.
