Mytle Forest to Trestle Mountain - 28 Apr 2026

Today's walk takes us from the car park for the start of the Myrtle Forest Walk climbing up to Collins Cap Trail then via East-West Trail to the start of the climb to the summit of Trestle Mountain.

The forecast was for a cloudy day with no rain so an ideal day for this walk.

 At the car park.

A casual start along the roadway before the Myrtle Forest Track starts.

On the track proper.

Alongside the creek.

At the top of the small waterfall which fortunately still has some water running despite the low rainfall.

Heading up the Collins Cap Track.

The fungi was phenomenal with its different varieties, colours and shapes.

The climb has commenced.

More fungi.

We crossed the creek.

to more fungi

then back across the creek before the climb to Collins Cap Trail.

A rest stop on the climb.

A more relaxed walk along the Collins Cap Trail.

With some water holes along the way.

We took the short cut on a trail which turned out a bit muddy.

After lunch at the start of the track to Trestle Mountain we commence the climb over the boulder fields.

Looking south from the summit.

A panorama that takes in Cape Raoul to the Hartz Mountans and the Huon Valley.

Looking towards New Norfolk and the Derwent Valley.

And a very happy group of walkers who all managed to climb the Summit.

A view along the ridgeline.

Another view of the Derwent Valley on the way down.

Heading back towards the cars and the end of the walk.

We had 14 walkers at the start but 3 returned after reaching Collins Cap Trail.

The other 11 went on the to the summit of  Trestle Mountain covering 13 kms and climbed 610 meters in 6.75 hours.

It was an  extremely long day but everyone was happy to have achieved the summit.

Thanks to Chris for his photos.
