Today's walk is one we last did about 2 years ago and as snow fell on Mt Wellington on the weekend I was interested to see the volume of water running down New Town Falls.
Overnight the weather improved dramatically to the extent that 14 walkers were ready to venture onto the lower mountain slopes.
Preparation almost over and ready to begin
The first part of the walk to Junction Cabin involves a climb of 350m (our longest climb of the day). We use the Myrtle Gully track which follows Guy Fawkes Rivulet.

We head off for New Town Falls using the Brushy Hill Fire Trail and then
the Lenah Valley Track

Small decent into New Town Falls. It was disappointing that there was only a trickle of water - I was hoping for a torrent!
Anyway a good place for lunch
Lunch over we make our way to the Main Fire Trail.

Soon after reaching the Main Fire Trail we cross the dry New Town Rivulet ( the stream which runs from the falls higher up) - last time we were here there was quite a quantity of water flowing and extra care was needed to cross safely.

Today 14 walkers covered the 8.5kms in perfect walking weather
