Lower Mountain Waterfalls - 11 Jun 2024

The walk today is to visit a number of waterfalls on the lower slopes of Mount Wellington.

The forecast is for early rain and strong winds and snow later so before leaving the cars everyone gets prepared.

We are all hoping that the latest rain will mean all the falls are running.

The signs says it all.

Our first view of the Organ Pipes from O'Grady Falls Track.

Next we arrive at the falls.

The bridge across the Hobart Rivulet.

View from the bridge

Mendelt awaiting the group to cross the bridge.

A small waterfall above O'Grady Falls.

The first of a number of fungi to be seen during the walk.

A small falls on the Betts Vale Track.

More Fungi.

Wending our way up the track towards the Pinnacle Road.

Before we spot more fungi.

The start of the descent on the Rocky Wheel'n shared use track.

More fungi with another small waterfall beside the track.

Another waterfall on the Hobart Rivulet.

Along the Fern Glade Track.

To Rocky Whelan's Cave for a timely lunch spot.

A close up of the green lichen? on the sandstone.

The sun shining on our lunch spot.

Mendelt with the help of Chris and Ron administering salt to his lip to rid himself of a small leech.

And more fungi.

The Radford Monument indicating how unforgiving the mountain can be.

Descending down to Silver Falls.

Heading down hill back to the cars.

A couple of small falls in the creek beside the track.

The last fungi for the day.

Because the day started in the middle of a significant rain event there were only 9 walkers to covered the 7.1 kms walk with a climb of just under 300 meters.

Thanks to Jo for leading the walk today and for Ingrid and Chris for their photos.
