Cascade Gardens to Strickland Falls 2019

Today Ron is leading us from the car park by the silos of the Cascade Brewery to Strickland Falls by various routes.

The weather is looking good as we set off, heading up a track on land owned by Australia's oldest brewery.

Forming up at the car park

Onto the first track

The brewery keeps the bark and leaf litter clear between the gum trees because of fire

Just a few minutes outside of Hobart

Up we go!

Over Guy Fawkes Rivulet

Nice, fresh water. Or at least it was when the Brewery was built

The track continues to climb through pleasant bush.

Mind your head!

Eventually we reach the top of Old Farm Road

Just in time for Morning Tea on a green and grassy bank.

Morning Tea
Around this area is where they want to put the proposed Cable Car terminal.

After our break we head onto the Main Fire Trail behind us. This takes us up some easy hills.

As it's a fire trail, there is plenty of room for walkers

I don't remember what this discussion was about
It was about now that a sharp-eyed walker spotted this old chain on the edge of the track.

I pulled it out and exposed two padlocks
Evidently, the track was closed off at some point in its history.

Looking back over Middle Island

Put here for fire fighting, I assume
We continue on for a short distance before turning off the fire trail onto a track leading down.

Heading off the fire trail onto a bike track

Looking back

This track brings us to the edge of Strickland Avenue and this proud sign attached to a tree.

Keeps them off the street, I suppose
Now we have a short walk up Strickland Avenue to the entry to Strickland Falls. This will be the lunch spot.

I suppose taking a bus up would be cheating

Entry to Strickland Falls
We'll have lunch here so some leave their packs while walking into the falls. We didn't walk all the way in, but visited some of the step falls below the main flow.

The brewery piped water down from here as it was very fresh and clean.

We return to have lunch by the road side.

Lunch
I have a walk around and take a couple more photos.

After lunch we travel a short distance along Strickland Ave before turning left down a track that heads back to the brewery.

Another fire trail

Heading down through many washouts

A glimpse of the River Derwent and the eastern shore
On we go
Soon we reach the top of an open field with our objective in sight at the bottom. So down we go.

Back to the cars

Cascade Brewery
This was a very pleasant walk on a nice day thanks to Ron (for the walk not the day!)

We had 15 walkers and covered 9.68km in 3:41hrs.
